A 12-month crianza requires as a minimum 40-year-old vineyard potency. This is what Altos de Rioja vineyard is, it extends in Rioja Alavesa high areas, on the first foothills of the Sierra Cantabria, in Laguardia, Elvillar and Kripan, in the Rioja Alavesa heart of the best ‘earthy taste’.
The elaboration methods are the ones that this winegrower applies to all its wines, such as the variety majority use, 100% Tempranillo, harvested by hand, cluster by cluster, careful selection, followed by the grape having its stems removed. After a 4-day pre-fermentative maceration in cold at 8°C, alcoholic fermentation with rigorous temperature controls between 25-28°C was carried out. The skins were kept with the grape juice in the tanks for the period necessary to achieve delicate colour and tannins extraction without being excessive. Later the wine was poured into 3 to 5 year of use barrels of 80% French and 20% American oak, maturing for 12 months with moving to other barrels at 6-month time.
It is Rioja classic wine with modern notes. Pleasant, with ripe fruit and slight toast shades, which evokes chocolate with oak spicy nuances.
