Old grape stocks are not only quality of guarantee but also of wine complexity. This feature is defined by the soil and the variety, thanks to its deepest roots. Lar de Paula Cepas Viejas is a red wine that comes from vineyards with the average age of 45 years. Its mainly limestone soils are capable of endowing the wine with fineness and varietal expression. The vineyards are located in the centre of Rioja Alavesa, in El Villar de Álava in a unique geographical situation and at an altitude of 600 metres, protected in the north by the Sierra Cantabria. But at the same time with some influence of the Ebro river microclimate with a good sunshine, which characterizes these Rioja lands.
A wine made with 100% Tempranillo grape, the best clusters of which were thoroughly selected. Later they had their stems removed and were squeezed to be put into 20,000-litre stainless steel tanks for 12-day fermentation at a controlled temperature. 30% of the wine was created in French oak barrels, which provides creaminess of toasted vanilla, and 70% American oak, giving lactic and cedar features, with periodic stirring every 4 months. Finally, it is matured in the bottle for 14 months.
Intense aroma, very fruity, highlighting roasting of the barrel. In the mouth it is fleshy, balsamic and also intense, moderately emphasizing oak tannins and fruit in the mouth and its aftertaste.
